The Rebel Son

Jake Fallon, a 28-year-old man accustomed to ignoring his overprotective family, is resolute in his decision to go ahead with his planned trip to Africa. Despite his mother’s pleas and his brother’s concerns, he is determined. After all, he figures that if he and his best friend, Brian, can survive the horrors of the Vietnam War, navigating Rhodesia’s political tensions will be a walk in the park.
Three weeks later, after completing an unforgettable safari, the two friends bag a lioness and are preparing for their long flight home. The next morning, they board a flight from Kariba to Salisbury, where Jake finds himself seated next to Sarah Malumbo, a stunning young ministry worker of mixed heritage. True to form, Jake flirts with her, and to his surprise, she flirts back. Everything seems perfect, and he’s convinced nothing could go wrong.
But from the ground below, members of the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA), a political freedom fighter group, prepare to launch a surface-to-air missile. Without warning, the Viscount carrying Jake, Sarah, and Brian is brought down from the sky.
Jake regains consciousness amidst the wreckage. Though wounded, he manages to pull Sarah from the plane’s smoking remains. After finding a handful of survivors, he realizes that his friend Brian is missing. When he returns to search for him, it becomes clear that this crash was no accident—the plane had been deliberately shot down. As he urges the survivors to take cover in the nearby bush, gunfire erupts.
Amid the chaos, Sarah tends to Jake’s wounds, but the situation takes a tragic turn when Jake witnesses Brian being tortured and killed. Forced to flee for their lives, Jake is struck by a bullet to the side of his head. He loses consciousness once again, but when he awakens, he finds his memory has been erased—he can’t even recall his own name.
On the Zambian side of the lake, Jake and Sarah find refuge with some of Sarah’s old acquaintances. A pair of doctors help treat Jake’s wounds, and a priest named Father Burke agrees to shelter them. However, Jake quickly realizes that both men harbor dark secrets, and that their mystery is somehow tied to Sarah.
In the weeks that follow, Jake, now assuming the guise of a visiting priest, drifts through his days, falling in love with Sarah, who becomes pregnant. Despite Father Burke’s initial objections, he eventually agrees to marry the young couple. However, on their wedding day, Sarah goes into labor—at the worst possible time. Father Burke reveals that ZIPRA has been asking about the new white priest in the village. Jake is forced to flee, but he refuses to do so without Sarah. Tragically, Sarah gives birth to a stillborn child, although something about the situation doesn’t seem quite right to Jake. This unsettles him as they make their hasty escape.
During their flight, Jake stumbles upon a bag of passports, one of which contains Brian’s photo. The sight of Brian’s face triggers Jake’s memories, along with a surge of rage at the men who killed his friend.
Jake sends Sarah back to America, explaining that he cannot leave Africa without avenging Brian’s death and uncovering the truth about their stillborn child. While Sarah stays with Jake’s brother, Bill, and a romantic tension develops between them, Jake enlists in the Rhodesian military to seek vengeance. After settling the score with Brian’s killers, Jake embarks on a quest to uncover the shocking truth about his child’s death—one that will change everything.
